295 policemen killed in Lagos in 2015 – Commissioner of Police

The Commissioner of POlice in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni, said that no fewer than 295 police officers and men died in 2015 under his command.

He said some of the men died through different illnesses, while others died from accident related incidents and exchange of gunfire with robbers among others.

The CP paid tributes to the fallen officers and commiserated with their families for the irreparable lose.

Owoseni said that between December 12, 2015 and January 6, 2016, no fewer than 47 suspected armed robbers and 14 cultists who had been on the wanted list of the police and the Department of State Services for murder cases were arrested.

He said two armed robbers were killed during exchange of gunfire with the police, while 16 different ammunition and 24 vehicles were recovered.

The Commissioner attributed the success recorded in the fight with criminals to the constant raids of black spots, which led to the arrest of 1,110 suspected hoodlums.

Owoseni stressed that 82 of the suspected hoodlums were set free, while 1,028 were charged to court after investigation.

He said:
“We had 745 convictions, 155 discharged by court, 128 others awaiting trials."
“We also had 1,055 motorcycles impounded during the period under review.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 25 suspects, including armed robbers, impersonator and a man who was arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old boy were paraded during the briefing.
