Inferno: Lagos Mainland Building, Others Razed by Fire
Our correspondent gathered that the fire incidents affected 24 tankers, a caterpillar and a 5905 Peugeot saloon car at Interland Tanker Park at FESTAC area of Amuwo Odofin , another tanker at Odo Iya Ilaro in Ikorodu and another tanker at a company on the island of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the Amuwo Odofin inferno raged for more than five hours and that the arrival of fire fighters prevented it from spreading to scores of other tankers, also loaded with petroleum products.

According to witnesses the fire might have started from the excessive heat from the machine , which was said to lack the capacity to trainload fuel from such tankers involved.

Unfortunately due to the inability of the company’s fire assistants to put out the fire it was said to have spread from one tanker to anther , resulting in a huge inferno.

As the fire raged , the arrival of fire fighters from a nearby fire station could not save the situation, prompting the reinforcement of fire servicemen and equipment from two others stations.

The fire was eventually put out after more than five hours. By then, 24 tankers, a caterpillar and a Peugeot car had been destroyed.

In another development, a tanker also went up in flames after spilling its contents on the road at Odo Iya Alaro area along Ikorodu Road.

The accident created serious traffic gridlock along the ever busy road as fire fighters and other emergency workers blocked some portions of the road in an attempt to put out the fire.
